The Social Democratic-Green Party Alliance Special Primary of 2019 was held on June 4, 2019, to replace Jonathan Dragan Bismarck XX over his controversial introduction of the Nobility Act of 2019.
In this special primary, the incumbent Emperor Ekewaka Mikala Kalawai'a defeated Jonathan Dragan Bismarck XX by a landslide margin, despite the irony that Kalawai'a signed the Nobility Act into law, Kalawai'a was approved as the Nominee for the Social Democratic-Green Party Alliance for the 2019 Chawosaurian direct election.
Kalawai'a won 193 votes from the SDGPA caucus of the Chawopolis Palace to Bismarck's 188 votes from the caucus, giving Kalawai'a the 191 votes needed to win, and he won a landslide in the popular vote, 56% of the vote to Bismarck's 30% of the vote. Bismarck won the conservative wing of the Social Democratic Party, and Kalawai'a won the Progressive and Environmentalist wings of the Social Democratic Party, plus the whole Green Party vote.
Originally, Ekewaka Mikala Kalawai'a refused to run for reelection due to fears that he may not win. A draft movement to draft Kalawai'a to run for reelection occured over anger with Bismarck for his introduction for the Nobility Act. Kalawai'a went on to lose reelection to Shang Jong Parker.
Angry over the election of Shang Jong Parker and his Communist Party, the Christian Democratic wing of the Social Democratic Workers' Labour Party blamed Kalawai'a's reelection defeat on the drama of the 2019 Social Democratic-Green Party Alliance primary and the party's secularist approach to politics, and thought Bismarck would've defeated Parker, the Christian Democrats got together with progressive Christians who were unhappy with the leadership of Charles Muskie in the Popular Democratic People's National Party, and together formed the Christian Democratic People's Republican Party in resistance to Shang Jong Parker and his new Communist Party government that took power on January 1, 2020.
