On August 11, 2018, Prince Degotoga K. Atagulkalu II was nominated by his father, Emperor Degotoga K. Atagulkalu, to succeed Jonathan Dragan Boleslaus IX as the next Prime Minister of the Empire of Chawosauria. On August 11, 2018, DKA II accepted his father's nomination and the responsibility of the executive office of the Prime Minister due to overwhelming loyalty to his father.
Unfortunately, on the morning of August 15, 2018, Degotoga K. Atagulkalu II was defeated by the populists from both the Left-Wing Coalition and the Big Tent Coalition, blocking his ability to become Prime Minister.
Background
Degotoga K. Atagulkalu's previous prime minister nominee, Garfield Elton DeGroff, was defeated by DKA's own liberal government because of his Political Affiliation with the Republican Party from the United States. This defeat was a huge blow to DKA himself. For over a month, DKA has not offered a prime minister nominee until August 10, 2018, he nominated his own eldest son, Degotoga K. Atagulkalu II. When Degotoga II was informed that his father nominated him for a higher political office in the Chawosaurian Government, Degotoga II was angry at his father, but due to intense loyalty to his father, Degotoga II called his father, the Emperor, and conceded to him that he will accept the nomination and the office of the Prime Minister.
Hearings
Confirmation hearings were held on August 13, 2018, at the Chawopolis Palace, the populists had negative questions for DKA's premier nominee, while the establishmentarians had positive questions for the nominee. Degotoga K. Atagulkalu II is a moderate Democrat, while his father, DKA, was a left-wing populist Democrat, and most of the Left-Wing Coalition are populists. DKA's nepotist nominee is at risk of being defeated by the populist lawmakers by August 15, 2018.
Defeat
On the morning of August 15, 2018, much to DKA's shock, the Left-Wing Populists from the Left-Wing Coalition and the Right-Wing Populists from the Big Tent Coalition were disappointed in DKA's premier nominee, who wasn't as populist as him. The Populists, plus the Communists, voted against him, only the Liberals and the Democrats voted in favor of him.
Aftermath of Defeat
Degotoga II was relieved, but disappointed at the same times, while his father, Emperor Degotoga, was disappointed, people were expecting anger, but he was calm and decided to try and find another premier nominee, who is populist, and big tent enough to appeal to both sides. This is DKA's second defeat by his own government.
