The Elections of 2018 took place during to the end of Degotoga K. Atagulkalu's second year as Supreme Leader. These elections are a decisive victory for the Communist Party. In the elections, Degotoga K. Atagulkalu (easily known as DKA) suffered a popularity decline, which allowed the Communist Party to crack the Capitalist Parties' trifecta government by gaining the Chawosaurian European Parliament on Halloween 2018, and won victories earlier before.
These Communist Victories throughout the whole year of 2018 are the results of the falling popularity of Degotoga K. Atagulkalu, as his approval ratings plummeted throughout the year and voters, particularly those who voted for DKA, were angry with him due to slow economic recovery, rising unemployment, his actions in the Great Patriotic War, lack of response to the Great Blackout, and slow investigations into the Poseidon Blowout and Oil-spill.
The elections began with a California special election on May 1, 2018, to fill the vacancy of a recently deceased Chawosaurian Senator, Tiffany Parker. In the general election, a Communist was elected to fill the vacancy instead, this special election result has been compared to the Alabama Special Election result against Donald Trump in December of 2017, and another special election in Massachusetts against Barack Obama in 2010, seven years before, all in the United States.
After the California election, the Communists went on to spend the rest of the year winning elections by exploiting on the anger and frustration towards DKA. They won more impressive victories in the Confederacy, the Chawosaurian Comrade Congress in the United States, the Chawosaurian European Parliament, and a Continental Chancellery in Asia.
