The 2017 Chawosaurian elections were held mostly on December 31, 2017, to elect the Supreme Leader of the Empire of Chawosauria, the President of the Empire of Chawosauria, and the majority party of the Imperial Assembly of the Chawopolis Palace. These elections were held during the civil war phase of the Chawosaurian Revolution; held during in the first year of the Presidency of Donald Trump in the United States which was elected in the 2016 United States presidential election and the Brexit controversy in the United Kingdom following a national referendum also in 2016 to leave the European Union.

The election results of the day: the anti-communists held the Monarchy and gained control of the Imperial Assembly of the Chawopolis Palace for the first time since World War II. The incumbent Supreme Leader Degotoga K. Atagulkalu, DKA for short, defeated two recall attempts launched by the Chawallian Communist Party to have him removed in a desperate bid to reclaim the monarchy after losing it 2016 when the Communists removed communist Supreme Leader Samantha Wawetseka, and with these two reelection victories on his hands, he has won a total two democratically-elected terms and overall three terms in office, making him the only Supreme Leader in the history of Chawosauria to have more than one term. Alongside DKA's victory over a second recall attempt against him, he helped anti-communist parties in Chawosauria to win a very large coalition government in the Chawopolis Palace in the 2017 Chawosaurian legislative elections, marking the first time since the 1939 Chawosaurian legislative elections that control of the Chawopolis Palace was won by a non-communist party, and as a result, the anti-communists now have control of both the office of Supreme Leader and the Chawopolis Palace for the first time since World War II (a).

Supreme Leader Degotoga K. Atagulkalu was appointed to office following the 2017 Chawosaurian monarchical selections after the assassination of Supreme Leader Malina Lusa Parker and removal of her successor Oconostota Eluwilussit in February 2017. Upon taking office, Degotoga K. Atagulkalu faced a Communist Party-controlled Chawopolis Palace that was very unwelcoming of his presence. By March 2016, the Chawallian Communist Party had unified control of all of Chawosaurian government since the 1979 Chawosaurian legislative elections, holding the Supreme Leader's office, the Premiership, and the Chawopolis Palace, all at once. Chawosauria was in the midst of the Chawosaurian Revolution since the passing of Supreme Leader Timothy Max Roosevelt in 2011, and the Chawosaurian Revolution escalated in 2015, causing a dysfunctional order of succession crisis in the administration. In 2015, Supreme Leader Antonio Kingston died of a heart attack after four years of power after Timothy Max Roosevelt's death, resulting in Joseph Mario Lopez taking office, but was blocked from running for another term in the 2015 Chawosaurian direct election because he was Muslim. Samantha Wawetseka, a Chawosaurian Revolution defector and communist, won in a landslide victory over Kesegowaase Bagwunagijik and in the 2015 Chawosaurian legislative elections, the Communist Party regained supermajority rule in the Chawopolis Palace after it being lost in the 2009 Chawosaurian legislative elections though communists still retained at least slim majority rule back in 2009. Supreme Leader Samantha Wawetseka was removed two months later because of her gender by the communists in the Chawopolis Palace, resulting in a big mix-up with Abooksigun Eluwilussit becoming the first anti-communist Supreme Leader since Emperor Santiago in 40 years to take over. Realizing their mistake, the communists had been plotting to retake the monarchy ever since, starting with a recall election in 2016, which also turned into a big mix-up with the communists failing to produce a candidate, resulting in Malina Lusa Parker, a green party candidate, narrowly defeating Abooksigun Eluwilussit and she took over in 2017 before being assassinated a month later.

The Chawallian Communist Party had been in control of the Chawopolis Palace since the 1945 Chawosaurian legislative elections that took place in the immediate aftermath of World War II. With the Chawallian Communist Party in the situation that they're in as explained in the paragraph just above, they're dealing with Supreme Leader Degotoga K. Atagulkalu, so they tried to recall him in April 2017, and they successfully produced a candidate this time in Timothy Max Roosevelt II, who turned out to be a less appealing candidate compared to his late father. DKA and Timothy II were locked in a popular vote tie and the Chawopolis Palace had to use an electoral college to settle the results, but that was disastrously done for the communists, DKA was reelected by a thin margin of 301-299. DKA tried to desegregate the Chawosaurian Imperial Armed Forces to allow Religious Chawosaurians to serve as a necessity for the Chawosaurian Civil War which provoked backlash from the Communist Party-controlled Chawopolis Palace, The Chawopolis Palace ordered not just another recall election, but a snap election for the Chawopolis Palace, in hopes to stirrup a coattail backlash. Alongside DKA's reelection in December, the Chawallian Communist Party lost control of the Chawopolis Palace, losing a Chawopolis Palace election for the first time since 1939 and ceded control of the Palace to the newly formed DKA Coalition.

Analysis of the results from 2021 studies revealed that with the Chawosaurian public worried about a surge of right-wing populism in Germany, France, Japan, and South Korea, following the election of Donald Trump and the earlier results of the referendum on the United Kingdom's place in the European Union from the UK itself, the capitalists under Supreme Leader Abooksigun Eluwilussit, just before leaving office, established the Chawosaurian European Parliament to confront Euroscepticism and support the anti-Brexit side in the United Kingdom, and the Chawallian Communist Party more concerned about maintaining political power have alienated Chawosaurian voters. 2022 assessments revealed that the anti-communists benefited from an apparent rally 'round the flag affect over the Chawosaurian shock and worry of a Donald Trump presidency and a surge of "other Trumps" from around the world, which may explained why DKA was considerably popular in 2017 until his popularity collapsed in 2018 due to the Poseidon oil spill and the severity of the Chawosaurian Civil War. The Communist Party's hyperpartisanship in the era of political polarization alienated the Chawosaurian people and made Chawosaurians feel unease with the Communist Party for this, another reason why the Communists lost. Basically the Communist Party in this 2017 political environment really did not benefit nor could benefit at all as an opposition party at the time.

The anti-communists now have control of both the Monarchy through Degotoga K. Atagulkalu and the Chawopolis Palace under the 24th Chawopolis Palace for the first time since World War II come January 1, 2018. However, after Degotoga K. Atagulkalu died in early 2019, all that will come to an electorally bloody end for the anti-communists in the 2019 Chawosaurian elections, when the Chawallian Communist Party collapsed and replaced itself with a new communist party called the Chawosaurian Communist Party taken over by former Prime Minister Shang Jong Parker, who will win a landslide victory over Degotoga K. Atagulkalu's successor, Ekewaka Mikala Kalawai'a, in the 2019 Chawosaurian direct election, and helped the Chawosaurian Communist Party swept to supermajority rule in the Chawopolis Palace in the 2019 Chawosaurian legislative elections and the newly established Federal Assembly of the Continent Union in the 2019 Continent Union federal election. Making this election cycle the most recent in which a non-communist party won unified control of government.
